Now in its 16th season, Vanguard Voices continues its mission to expand the boundaries of choral music in the metropolitan Detroit area. The 65-voice mixed choir has carved out a unique niche in the community – it regularly elicits and performs new choral works from established and aspiring composers around the world. In the past four years, the Vanguard Premieres Choral Composition Contest has recognized 20 new compositions by composers from four continents. Vanguard Voices has premiered these new works – as well as three specially commissioned pieces – to an enthusiastic audience. Several of the composers have traveled to Dearborn to assist Vanguard Voices with the preparation of these new additions to the choral repertoire for their public debut. In the spirit of further fostering musical interchange in the area, Vanguard Voices will host the first-ever Vanguard Choral Celebration in March, which will bring together top area choirs for an evening of inspired song. At the conclusion of the regular performance season, Vanguard Voices will travel to Wilmington, North Carolina, for a festival performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor conducted by Dearborn native Steven Errante.
