In its 15th season, Vanguard Voices reaches
out to embrace American and international choral works in two major performances,
in December and June. The 65-voice mixed choir will combine with the Dearborn
Community Chorus in Conrad Susas arrangement of ten carols from
several Spanish-speaking regions of the world. Carols and Lullabies:
Christmas in the Southwest will lead a program that also will include
carols familiar to Americans, but performed in their original languages.
Vanguard Voices will join the Archdiocesan Chorus and the
Wayne State University Symphonic Chorus in a Festival of American Choral
Music at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit in
mid-February. The three choirs will combine to perform Samuel Adlers
Transfiguration: An Ecumenical Mass under the baton of Detroit
Symphony Civic Orchestra conductor Charles Burke, after having had the
honor of rehearsing the work in the presence of Adler himself.
The season will conclude in June with the world premiere
performance of the two winners of this years Vanguard Premieres
choral composition contest. Kansas-based composer Dan Forrest, whose A
Basque Lullaby earned an honorable mention in the 2004 competition,
is this years emerging composer winner with his You Are The Music.
Guy Forbes of Decatur, Illinois, is the winner of the general category
with his O Nata Lux. Several honorable mention compositions, from
three countries, will round out a memorable performance.
